How to build a piñata shaped like a beehive 2015/03/16

Making a piñata is much easier than you think and you will make your party as fun and joyful as ever!

You can really design and make the piñata you want

While, this time, I decided to make one shaped like a pretty beehive and, with bees!

We will need:

• Water
• Flour
• Newspaper shreds
• A big inflated balloon
• Silk yellow paper (or tissue paper)
• Scissors
• Pencil
• Color markers (yellow and black)
• Glue
• Rope

How to make it:

1. We pour the equivalent of four cups of water in a bowl. We then add two cups of flour and mix evenly. We put it on the heat and continue stirring until getting a dense mixture we will then let cool.

This mixture will work as glue to make our piñata

2. With the help of a piece of newspaper, we take a little “glue” and extend it on the surface of the balloon, cover it almost entirely (we only leave the upper part uncovered: between 3-4 cm). We apply another 2-3 layers of pieces of paper to the balloon, covering the surface evenly to create a structure more solid every time. We let it dry over night.

3. When our paper ‘egg’ is completely dry, we pop the balloon that has been the base. Don’t worry, the shape of the ‘egg’ will still be the same! Now this is the base of the piñata and it is now when it is ready to be decorated.

4. We cut silk paper circles, as many as we need to cover the surface of the piñata completely, as you can see on the following figure.

5. Before covering the upper part with the circles, make two lateral holes with the scissors to pass the rope through there and knot it, this will work as hook.

6. We draw pretty bees on cardboard, cut them and color them. These will be pasted on top of the piñata

7. Our piñata is finished! Now we can fill it with candies and sweets for the children.

Your guests will have a great time… you’ll see!
