Wooden Cactus Two fantastic creation ideas. 08/29/2019

Today is a special occasion because for the first time the Tempo di Festa blog is participating in the Friendly Challenge 116 Edition

and we are doing it with a Cactus Jewelry Holder, that also fulfills the role of centerpiece very “ad hoc” for Cactus and Young Ladies theme parties. TDF organizes parties and events and, for this reason, today we want to share with you the tutorial of how we have created our Cactus

Materials

  • Pinewood, 2 cm thick
  • Liquid wood paints
  • Thumbtacks
  • Paintbrushes
  • Jigsaw
  • Pencil, eraser

This is the cactus design which height is 24 cm, print the pattern and with a pencil pass the design to the wood

To make the cuts you will need a jigsaw, if you don’t have this type of tools, it is best to delegate this task to a carpenter.

We sand the cactus until we obtain a smooth surface, we slightly round the edges and clean with a wet cloth to remove any dust trace.

With the same 2 cm thick wood we cut a rectangular piece of 15 cm in length x 8 cm in width, marking diagonals through the rectangle, we find the center to locate the exact region where we can support the cactus, this region is better to draw it before painting.

And now we go to the most fun part, where the birthday girl can decorate the cactus. There are so many ways to decorate it. Finally, I have opted to paint it in green. It is always good to make a test on a small piece of wood to see the result. This paint is for natural wood, to achieve uniformity you pass a cloth avoiding excess paint in certain regions. For the base I have selected walnut color. Let dry in the sun.

To simulate the thorns, I have placed some silver thumbtacks on which you can hang the necklaces, bracelets or rings you use on a daily basis.
