HOW TO DECORATE SOAPS 2015/07/03

With “natural” inspiration, these decorated soaps are a good way of thanking guests for their presence at your religious event, Baptism, First Communion, Confirmation or Wedding.

I have found these natural soaps at home furniture store, which sold them in large pieces. Then at home, I cut many “slices” of soap with the help of a knife, this creates a texture on the soap edges giving it a rustic effect.

Materials:

  • Artisanal soaps with fragrance of lavender, almond, vanilla, etc.
  • Colored paper
  • Ribbons
  • Scissors
  • Natural fiber cords
  • Small fabric or crochet flowers
  • Needle and similar shade thread
  • Hot silicone
  • Buttons, bows and other decorations
  • 2-cent coin

How to make them

Basically what we will do are the wrappings of each soap, combining the different materials. I have chosen neutral colors, browns, greys and cream to get a simplicity and pureness concept.

For the first soap bar I decorated a sort of knitted rug, pasting two different ribbons with the hot silicone, which I later used to wrap it.

Then I pasted a 2-cent coin to a white crochet flower, as if it was a rosette like the ones traditionally used in baptisms (if the value of the coin seems low, you can change it for a 50 cent coin or 1 euro!), then I have pasted it on the right side of the band.

I have decorated another soap with a different band. I formed a small bow with this material with needle and thread; I pasted some natural fibers and in the center I laced a small button made of a shell.

This time I placed the bow on the left side of the soap bar.

With the materials you have available at home, you can decorate each soap bar differently, even with pieces of paper, ripping it instead of cutting it, as I have done for the third composition.

You can complement each creation with a label, including the date of the event and a thank you phrase.
