How to make a Dry flower Topiary 2017/04/04

Taking advantage of what spring offers, beautifully colored flowers, today our raw material will be a mallow, why?

Because its beautiful color does not disappear when it dries

Materials

  • Dry eucalyptus flowers and twigs
  • 3 baubles in 3 sizes
  • Glue, paintbrush, scissors, adhesive tape, ruler
  • Different Containers, disposable spoon
  • Plaster, water

We start the flower harvesting, early in the morning, when they are open, this way when dried they will stay extended. Select flowers that when dry don’t lose their color, like a mallow

We place the flowers in a cardboard box or on top of newspaper and we expose them directly to the sun light

Select some twigs from a tree, I suggest eucalyptus for its lasting in time without breaking

Check the proportion of the baubles in relation to the height of the twigs

Another idea is to interlace various twigs to form a more eye-catching log

We select the adequate containers for each topiary, in proportion with its dimensions, you could use yogurt cups, clothing soap lids etc.

1. Have any stick or disposable spoon to mix and the twigs on the side

2. Prepare the mixture in a bigger container, proportion for the mix is 2 parts plaster by 1 of water

3. Mix

4. Pour into the vase mold

Give it some taps against the table to take the air out

Place the twigs in the mixture making sure they stay vertical and set them with tape to another object to avoid them from tipping while the plaster is drying

Once the plaster is dry, we can manipulate the base and insert the baubles; crush the petals with a grater or with scissors

With the help of a paintbrush, apply glue on the baubles, let the petals fall on top and we press with our hand to set them better. Aside from flowers, I’ve left leaves to give a green color touch and I’ve used other colored flowers

I hope you liked this DIY decoration which you could use to decorate any place for your party or as a place holder, you can add this idea to the complete Butterfly kit available in our store
