How to prepare Homemade Ice Popsicles 2017/06/07

In these days of intense summery heat, there is nothing better than an ice popsicle. They are even more refreshing than ice cream!

If at home we prepare beverages to freeze using the seasonal fruit we like, we can create different fun combinations for the delight of our children and family

Sometimes molded and popsicle sticks are not easy to get, which is why we can reuse plastic cups, for example the yogurt ones and some plastic spoons, so, now there is only one thing left to do: Prepare the recipes!

The procedure is simple, but here are some tips for a more delicious and nutritious preparation

To make the popsicles we will need: cups, bowls, blender, knife, strainer, spoons, popsicle molds, popsicles sticks, straws

Ingredients:

  • Water
  • Milk
  • Yogurt
  • Fruits, tip: the riper the fruit is, you’ll have to add less sugar
  • Cane or white sugar or condensed milk or prepared syrups you find in the supermarket. Avoid honey because it tends to turn a little bitter

Preparation

The fruit chunks tend to stay at the bottom of the mold, if we want to find fruit in a uniform way throughout the ice popsicle, we will have to fill the molds in layers, one third at the time, making three rounds to freeze

If we don’t like fruit chunks or seeds, we will use the blender until obtaining a thick and velvety mixture that we will pass through the strainer before pouring into the molds

To create singular popsicles we can fill the mold up to half or a third of the mixture and the rest with other different mixtures, freezing the layers one by one

To insert the stick we must freeze the popsicles at least 45 minutes

Recipes:

Using our creativity we can create our recipes and combinations. I share with you the recipes we’ve tried (quantity for 2 or 3 popsicles each, depending on the size of the mold)

Mojito

Ingredients: 3-4 mint leaves, the juice of two lemons, 2-3 tablespoons of brown sugar, 400 ml of water, 10 ml of rum (optional)

Procedure: mix the ingredients, pour the mixture in the molds. Freeze for at least 4 hours

Watermelon

Ingredients: 150-200 grams of watermelon, 300 ml of water, 3 tablespoons of sugar

Procedure: save some watermelon and cut in into cubes. Blend the rest of the ingredients, pass the mixture through a strainer, pour into molds and add watermelon chunks. Freeze for at least 4 hours

Lime and elderberry syrup

Ingredients: 2-3 mint leaves, the juice of 2 lemons, 30 ml of elderberry syrup, 300 ml of water

Procedure: mix the ingredients, pour into the molds, freeze for at least 4 hours

Banana and Chocolate

Ingredients: 1 ripe banana, 1 glass (approximately 300 ml) of milk, 3 tablespoons of cacao powder for drinks, 1 tablespoon of sugar (optional)

Procedure: mix all the ingredients in the blender at high velocity if you want the fruit chunks to be smaller or low velocity if you want bigger chunks, pour in the molds and freeze for 5 hours

Black Cherry and Strawberry Yogurt

Ingredients: 150 grams of black cherries, 300 ml of water, 3 tablespoons of sugar, 1 jar or strawberry yogurt

Procedure: warm half of the water and melt the sugar, add the cherries and mix to taste (less time and low velocity you get bigger chunks of fruit and vice versa).

Pour half into the molds, freeze for approximately one hour. Remove the molds from the freezer and pour in the yogurt, freeze for other 4 hours

Mocha

Ingredients: 2 small cups of coffee, 400 ml of milk, 3 tablespoons of powdered cocoa

Procedure: make a coffee with milk with 200 ml of milk, make a chocolate beverage with the rest of the milk and cocoa powder. Fill two popsicle molds up to half with the milk coffee and freeze for one hour. Remove from the freezer and pour in the chocolate, freeze for another 4 hours

Mocha-latte

Ingredients: for mocha popsicles, add more than ¾ of the additional milk and 2 tablespoons of condensed milk

Procedure: mix the milk with the condensed milk. Then, like in the Mocha recipe, the molds are filled but until close to a third and one more round to the freezer is made

Whichever the taste, they are a delight!

Prepare as many ice popsicles for your guests, whether they are little or grownups, in the themed party Baby Hawaii!
