“Pizzette Girandola” Recipe (Mini Pinwheel Pizzas) 2015/01/09

Lets start the year in our blog with a fast and easy recipe for your parties.

Here you go, these mini pizzas made in a different way from usual, for a fun side dish or as an appetizer for your themed parties, it could also be a good idea for “areal” themed parties like the Kite kit, we offer in our store

For the preparation you need these ingredients:

  • 1 roll of puff pastry
  • ¼ cup of tomato sauce
  • Oregano
  • Salt
  • Olive oil
  • Pepper
  • 40 grams of Mozzarella, approximately
  • ½ sausage (inlay)

As tools you need:

  • 1 oven tray
  • 1 pasta cutter
  • 1 brush for food
  • Fork
  • Teaspoon
  • 8 cm square mold or a pattern

How to make the mini pizzas:

If you don’t have a mold, download, print and cut the free pattern, you find it at the end of this post.

Cut the mozzarella and the sausages in fine slices of 2-3 mm.

Season the tomato purée with a teaspoon of olive oil, salt, pepper and oregano.

Spread the puff pastry. With the help of the mold or paper pattern and the pasta cutter (I have used the wave cutter, but you can use the normal pizza cutter), cut the pastry forming a grid. Separate the squares.

Take a little tomato purée with a spoon and put it at the center of each square.

Place a slice of mozzarella and one slice of sausage on the center of each square.

With the pasta cutter, make a cut starting at each corner of the squares until reaching the filling, like the pattern number 1.

Close to form the pinwheels, taking the opposite corners and leading them to the center, like the pattern number 2. Apply a little pressure against the filling to close the pasta. In the end you can add some tomato salsa to close it better.

If you wish for the pinwheels to get a little puffy, pass a cooking brush with the tomato purée and with a fork make holes on 2 of the tips of each pinwheel.

Bake at 180ºC for 15-20 minutes.

Present them warm on their serving plate.

Suggestions:

You can sprinkle the pinwheels with oregano, poppy seeds or sesame seeds before putting them in the oven!

Try this recipe in a sweet version, adding pastry cream or whipped cream instead of the tomato sauce and instead of mozzarella and sausages, fruits like strawberries or raspberries, once it is out of the oven sprinkle some powder sugar. Adorable!
