How to color powdered sugar 2015/03/04

With colored powdered sugar we can give a touch of effect to our desserts in a practical and easy way.

On top of cream or ice cream, cookies or desserts, we can also try to include sugar on the mixture of our recipes.

If we stop on any of the steps we will get granulated colored sugar, which we can use to cover the edges of glasses or cups which is achieved by moistening the edge with orange or lemon juice or create layers with different shades of sugar on clear jars.

We will need:

  • Granulated sugar
  • Food coloring preferably on a paste
  • Food processor
  • Spoon
  • Plastic bags for food
  • Paper napkin

Preparation:

With a spoon we insert the sugar, in the quantity we want, in a plastic bag for food. We add a tip of food coloring or 4-5 drops of liquid coloring. We ‘massage’ the sugar so it is distributed and takes color. If the sugar is to wet we can transfer it to a paper napkin and let it dry for half an hour. Once dry, check the color, if it is necessary for it to be more intense we will repeat the previous steps.

Keep in mind that powdered sugar will present a lighter color when ready.

We put the sugar on the food processor and blend for 2 to 3 minutes until the sugar turns into powder.

We can keep it and use it when needed or using it immediately to decorate our desserts.
