How to cook… edible spoons! 2015/02/04

As we all know, every time it is more important to protect our environment. With this easy recipe we can prepare original appetizers from which we can eat the filling, but also the table cutlery!

Ingredients

  • White bread (preferably remove the crust, like when making canapés)
  • Fillings of your liking
  • Some spinach or lettuce leaves for decoration

Necessary materials

  • Ladle
  • Soupspoon
  • Coffee spoon
  • Paper napkins
  • Pen
  • Pizza cutter or scissors for food
  • Muffin mold
  • Wooden cutting board

Process

In the market there are pasta cutter and molds shaped like a spoon. But if don’t have them, you can make yourself a paper pattern this way: on top of the paper table cloth place the soup and coffee spoons and draw the silhouette starting from the hollow part and then the handle, but this last one shorter than a real spoon.

After cutting the silhouettes, place them on top of the bread looking for a way of using the majority of the bread. I have managed to get 2 silhouettes on each slice of bread.

Now, with the help of the pasta cutter or with some scissors for food, cut the shapes of the bread.

Once the bread spoons are cut, we put them on top of the ladle and with a finger we lightly press on the rounded part to obtain a cavity, the handle is also lightly modeled.

Put each spoon on the muffin tray in a way they take shape.

Turn the oven on between 150-160 º C and bake the edible spoons for 5-8 minutes or until they are golden.

Remove the bread spoons from the oven and let them cool on top of the mold.

Select spinach or lettuce leaves that can help you dress the spoons better.

Fill the edible spoons with the filling of your preference (salads, cold meats, cheeses, tuna, salmon, pate, etc.) serve the filling on top of the leaves and place the spoons on top of the wooden board.

To make these spoons more appetizing, lightly sprinkle with olive oil and sprinkle some Parmesan cheese on top of them.

Instead, to make them thinner, we can lightly press them before cutting the shapes.

Here is a secret: if a handle breaks from the spoon, you can fix it with slices of cheese. Doing this: with your fingers warm up the cheese a little and wrap around the bread to join the two pieces.

These spoons are really nice, they can’t not be on your savory table! Remember to tell your guests they are edible! You can indicate it on the food tents customizable for your event, available in our party kits and in our store.
