Back to School… with no traumas! 2015/09/15

The school bell rings! Summer vacations are over for our children!

Lets see how to deal with back to school without many traumas!

After allowing a couple of hours outside of the regular sleeping schedule, in the morning we find sleepy children and restless children at night. Lets start the first days of September to anticipate gradually the morning alarm clock and send to bed early in the evening.

Surely, when it comes to food, we have also broken a few rules. Lets try to get back healthy eating habits of regular and healthy meals, interlaced with the adequate light snacks in the midmorning and midafternoon.

For children who haven’t attended daycare and have been spoiled by mom and dad, grandparents or babysitters, the detachment could represent a trauma, which must be dealt with serenity and calmness of the own parents. If the child perceives trust in the educators of the daycare, they will understand that they can trust new people.

For the first day of elementary school, you can buy school supplies in advance letting your child pick the notebooks, the backpack, and the pencil case they like the most and try to involve them in their preparation to (labels, covers, markers, etc…)

If the children throw a tantrum, because they have already been to daycare or school, point out the positive aspects of it, like learning so many new things, getting together with old friends or maybe meet new ones, tell them how school was in your time and how much fun you had trying to infuse security into them.

Celebrate back to school with a small home ritual: prepare your favorite dinner, a special stroll, designate a night of extra pampering before bed… all in base of the possibilities of the family.

For now, serenity and determination are the key words to keep in mind.

Happy school year!
