How to make a candle with a photo 27/09/2022

Oh! If there weren’t grandparents, we would have to invent them!

Playmates, drivers, storytellers and sometimes even a little of teachers… Many families have the support of the grandparents and the 2nd of October is the day dedicated to them.

Today we are creating a candle to given them as a present on this day.

The materials are really low cost and easily available.

  • 1 new white altar candle
  • 1 candle, even if used will be all right
  • Lighter
  • Hot glue
  • Plastic flowers
  • Hairdryer
  • A piece of bark of 10 x 20 cm (alternatively, a wood plank)
  • Wax paper
  • A photo of your children printed in normal paper

A little clarification: an altar candle is a large and thick candle with a diameter of 4 cm or more.

Start by lighting up the candle to obtain a little of liquid wax that you’ll need later.

Shape the photo so it has a kind of slightly curvilinear shape and place it over the candle.

Wrap the candle with wax paper.

Using the hairdryer, heat the candle placing it really close to the paper

After a couple of minutes, check your work.

If it is necessary, rewind the candle and heat a little more.

Note the difference between the first and the second image: the melted wax with the heat is also absorbed by the photo that is pasted on the candle.

Paste the flowers on the piece of bark with hot glue. I advise you do some tests first to find the adequate position of the flowers and especially of the candle so it stays straight over the irregular bark surface. If you are using a wood plank, you will not have to worry about this.

Let the wax spill over the bark and rapidly place the candle with the photo. Do not touch the composition until the wax is solid again.

Your composition is ready and you can replicate it for the grandparents.

The candle is also an excellent idea to make original DIY gifts on the occasion of a baby’s baptism.
