Vacation time! What to pack 2017/06/22

We’ve been waiting summer for a whole year... but above all we wait for, vacations!

Once the bags are prepared and after travelling, you arrive to your destination to spend one week, ten or fifteen days of vacation, sometimes even just for a weekend... what is important is to not let the vacations be ruined by small inconveniences!

Having said this, here are some ideas that could “save” your vacations

IDENTIFICATION CARD

Prepare your children a kind of ID card to put on their shirts or hang by their necks with a string. Indicate your phone number or one from the hotel you’ll be staying at. In case your child gets lost, it’ll be easier to help them find their parents

If age allows it and if you usually vacation on the same place, teach your child, year after year, that the hotel or apartment is close to certain store, mail office, pharmacy, etc. with the purpose of offering some easy reference points for finding the way back

CLOTHES

Aside from bathing suits or snow boots, according to the destination, when it’s about children include complete change of clothes... or better yet, a change of the change, because, needless to say, when us moms aren’t completely prepared, it ALWAYS happens (trust me, it’s a mom law!) that our children fall in an unexpected way ruining their pants...

Even if your destination anticipates heat, ocean and sun, don’t forget a sweater or sweatshirt and long pants, since any unexpected climatic change could lurk

If by the contrary your destination is the mountain, it’s better to remove some T-shirts or short sleeved shirts because, even though at night a quilt is required, during the day it can be really hot

MEDICATION

Prepare a kit that allows you to deal with everything... or almost everything... firstly include disinfectant patches (you can find disposable disinfectant wipes in the market), paracetamol for a sudden fever and lactic ferments for stomach aches

If your child suffers of particular pathologies, take stockpiles of these medications, don’t forget their health card and medical certificates that indicate chronic illnesses or allergies

Even though it’s not about medicine, don’t forget:

-Lotions or anti mosquito spray for mosquito stings (on the mountains ticks are common)

Sunscreen and cream for after tanning, Always! Not only to take to the beach, but also to the mountain, lake or city, protection against UV and UVB rays is fundamental

SOME ADVICE ON FOOD

One stomachache can be caused by multiple causes: indigestion, intoxication, stomach flu...

Pay a lot of attention to cold meat, sandwiches or snacks made with it may cause a lot of thirst, which doesn’t go well with sun and heat!

Make sure to wash thoroughly fruits and vegetables and avoid eating raw eggs: they can cause salmonella which causes nausea, vomit and stomach cramps.

Instead, yes to ice cream, but in moderation, especially if consumed after dinner: one light marine breeze or the fresh evening of the mountain can ‘block’ digestion and cause stomach pain... Now imagine if in the stomach there is also something cold! Diarrhea or vomit at night for sure!

Making a picnic in the wilderness is without a doubt a part of the experiences of vacations, but pay attention to hands hygiene: let your children pick flowers, rocks, insects, but always carry extra water to wash their hands and add a bottle of sanitizing gel

Prepared foods with anticipation must be kept adequately in trip coolers and don’t leave it outside for a long time to avoid the risk of developing bacteria

Having said this, don’t only think on the negative things, but let’s take pertinent precautions in order to avoid any mishap...

Happy Vacations!
