Tutorial how to make a piñata in the shape of a chick 03/31/2023

In this guide I show you how to make a piñata in the shape of a chick, a decorative element and above all fun that cannot be missed in children’s parties.

Materials

  • Yellow crepe paper
  • Yellow tissue paper
  • Yellow and black paper
  • Resistant cardboard
  • Flexible cardboard
  • Adhesive paper tape (or kraft paper)
  • White glue
  • Paintbrush, pencil, cutter and scissors

Use one piece resistant cardboard for each side of the cardboard, the pattern we give you is for a 20 cm in height piñata, quadruple the model to obtain a 80 cm piñata which is an adequate measurement for little children. If you are good at drawing, design the silhouette over the cardboard, it is really a simple figure to draw, the guideline is the same for all the piñatas.

Draw the silhouette over the cardboard, outline with a pencil and carefully cut with the cutter.

Cut both sides of the piñata, The lateral cardboard measures 5 cm in width and 65 cm in length, roll this so it adapts better to the silhouette of the piñata’s body. For the 80 cm piñata, the lateral cardboard can measure between 15 cm and 20 cm in width and approximately 2.60 cm in length and you will paste by sections.

Roll the flexible cardboard so it better adjusts to the silhouette of the piñata.

Have at hand pieces of paper tape and start pasting the pieces, cover all except the bottom part, this opening will serve for handling during the piñata’s elaboration process and to insert candy.

Cut tissue paper of at least 2 cm larger per side to cover all the pinata’s contour, paste with water diluted glue in equal parts.

Cut the strips of crepe paper at 3 cm (6 cm for a larger piñata) and cut strips, start pasting this paper in the bottom of the piñata always leaving the same space between it for a more uniform result.

Pass a cord to hang the piñata, you can do it before setting the lateral paper. For large piñatas you must tie down the cord from the front cardboard as well as from the posterior cardboard because it will have more weight. In the image of the right see how the crepe paper looks better when glued in a uniform distance between it.

Cut the excess of paper in the contours. With yellow and black cardboard or paper make the eyes, chick beak, wings, make the chick’s tuft with black crepe paper and paste it all with glue.

Roll a piece of crepe paper of 15 cm in length, cut a section of 6 cm and fold to form the legs, staple to the main piece, then insert these to the body of the piñata through a crack and paste with glue. For the large piñata legs, form the legs with cardboard wrapped with black crepe paper, the proportion for each leg is 36 cm in length and 24 cm for the “two toes” of the leg.

Here is the Chick piñata, a party complement which is super fun for children.

This is the pattern I have followed for a piñata of 20 cm in height.

It is a pleasure to help with your party
